Self-serve license management for software businesses

Every software business that sells license keys eventually runs into the same support patterns: "I got a new computer, how do I transfer my license?", "Can you resend my license key?", "I need to cancel my subscription."

These are not complex problems. They are repetitive ones. And when each of them requires a manual response on your end, they scale badly.

We built the Keyforge customer portal to eliminate this entirely. Customers get immediate, self-service answers, and your support inbox stays quiet.

What customers can do in the portal

The portal gives users full visibility and control over their own licenses. Using just their email address, they can:

  • See all license keys tied to their email.
  • View which devices are currently activated on each license.
  • Deactivate devices they no longer use, for example after switching computers.

If you use the payment integrations, the portal goes further. Customers can also view their purchase history and open the billing portal directly to manage or cancel a subscription, update a payment method, or change their plan.

All of this without a single support message reaching you.

Zero setup required

One thing we deliberately avoided was making the portal something you need to configure, host, or maintain. There is nothing to build or deploy. Keyforge automatically provides the portal for every account at keyforge.dev/portal/request.

Customers enter their email, receive a time-limited access link, and land on a page showing all of their licenses. No account creation, no password to set or forget.

Staying in control of what customers can do

Self-service does not have to mean unrestricted access. From the Keyforge dashboard, you can configure the portal on a per-product basis:

  • Hide specific products so they do not appear in the portal at all.
  • Prevent customers from removing or resetting active device activations.

This is useful when you want to give customers visibility into their licenses without allowing them to freely cycle through device slots, which can be a concern for strictly enforced single-seat licenses.

The broader picture

Support tickets about licenses are a symptom of missing self-service tooling. The portal solves the most common ones at the root: it gives customers the access and context they need to resolve issues themselves.
